Declutter Your Home to Feel more Organized

Over a long period of time, we seem to acquire so many possessions. And, just like our cupboards, our lives start to overflow when we live in a space that is cramped and cluttered. It is often said that you should be careful or the things that you own may end up owning you. There is a degree of truth in this. When your home becomes cluttered by years worth of possession it can be hard for you to let go of some of the items that you own.

We can develop a strong emotional connection with many of our possessions. This is fine in some respects, but it can also be quite unhealthy. Where an item that you have not seen for years and forget that you had has no physical and no sentimental value, you should be able to sell it or throw it away without any guilt assuming you have no use for it. If you cannot do that, you may need to address your relationship with your possessions.

Having a declutter may well be very good for you emotionally, but it will also help make your home feel more organized.

Going Through Your Possessions

When you are having a declutter, you need to be hard on yourself. Create three different stacks. One stack will be items that are destined for the bin. The second is going to be items that you have that you could give away or sell. And thirdly, items that you are to keep. Set yourself a goal, you may want to reduce your overall possessions by about a third.

Commit To The Items You Are Keeping

If you have chosen to keep any items, be sure that you commit to them. For example, if you have found a watch that has stopped working, instead of putting it back in the drawer, send it for watch repair, get it fixed and start to wear it again. It is no good for anyone gathering dust like that. It is far better to try and create a new lease of life for your possessions than to just keep them in a sorry state hidden away.

Selling Your Unwanted Items

If you have a stack of items that are to be got rid of, you can divide this into a pile that you would like to sell, and some to give away to charity.

It is important to realize that if you are donating items to charity they need to be in good condition. Scruffy items are unlikely to sell and so will probably not even make it out onto the shop floor. You are wasting the charities time by sending them items that should be disposed of.

List your items for sale online, make sure you give a clear description with as much information as possible and include some good quality photos of the items too. Make sure your listing price is reasonable and is in line with other similar items listed on the same site.
